Jerry Meislic has a Really Good book on Ficus and INDOOR Bonsai care in general.
Lot of good usable info on light needs.

Your tree will be stressed from the repotting/root pruning. Let it rest awhile and regain strength. Don’t wiggle, push, readjust, wire or anything untill it is growing and secure in the pot. Give it the proper light/weather/water for the species.
Let it rest/regain strength, while you read and study Bonsai books and online articles to find out what is needed. IMO most new Bonsai are killed by too much kindness.

    ok thank you :)

it’s an inside tree, and i don’t know what it is, i’ve tried to look it up, it’s some sort of japanese tree though, that’s what i was told.

  6. raiun42 says:

    @NorseRonin Inside or outside?
About mid spring/early summer you can remove all the leaves (decidous only) by cutting them off at the stem. Leave a little stem on the tree. The new leaves will be smaller, and more branching. Do this only on a healthy, thriving tree.

  10. NorseRonin says:

i just got one that has full sized leaves, so is it still possible to get the leaves small by trimming them?

  11. Dimipoke1 says:

That grassy stuff above the soil is called moss, which is alot like grass but smaller. It often grows on the Bonsai’s trunk and on the soil, usually when the soil is good soil or well fertilized.

Commonly, in your Bonsai pot, weeds and clovers can grow. Bonsai with these growing should be cleaned of them, because they are a weak plant that mostly rely on trees and other plants to live, thus, they suck the plant’s energy and water. If there are enough of them in a Bonsai pot, they can kill it.

  12. NamesROverated says:

well, if you watched the videos, he said any tree can be used

@TheEpiph0neBassist you are incorrectly watering your bonsai, make sure you temp is around 73f or 22c. buy a good book on bonsai care and you will learn how to properly maintain a bonsai

  22. killerkowalczyk says:

@cadwyn101 it all depends on what species of tree you have but 1. yes you should pluck dead/dying leaves 2. I let my soil feel dry to the touch for about 1-2 days and then water (at which point the soil stays moist for about 5 days or so, then has a 1-2 day dry out period, then I water again) 3. never keep a bonsai in a window sil, they can be kept close by on a table but never in a sil, there is too much heat/cold fluctuations. Make sure they are no where near a heating register/coil.

  23. cadwyn101 says:

hey i have a chinese elm bonsai and i have some general care questions as im not really a gardener of any sort. any help would be greatly apreciated.

    1. some of the leaves on the tree havet turned yellow.should i trim them
    2. how often should i water it and how much.
    3. im keepin it on my window sil for light but as i live in the uk and its starting to go into wnter im worried that it might be too cold for it. is it allright where it is,

    thanks

  24. MattTheGuitarGuy says:

what do you do if the rocks are glued together? like i pulled on one and with a little force it snapped. does this mean i could just get a chisel or something to get them off because its time for the tree to get repotted

  25. stingrayyyyyy says:

To prevent the leaves from falling, you have to: keep the temperature at 75, do not move the tree from the spot were it’s doing well.
