Bonsai Hunting Video

March 5, 2010 by admin

A video tutorial on how to hunt for Bonsai. It explains how to dig up a prospective tree without damaging the roots. The tree is then sent to a workshop where primary branches are chosen and unnecessary branches are removed. The front of the bonsai is chosen, the roots and branches are cut to its final length, and the bonsai is finally planted to a pot.

of course it can live, that was a little too rough for the tree but it lives, plants have stronger will than humans :P

  2. the4445 says:

that cant be expected to live, you hardly left any roots!! :S

Sorry, i just realized this is in the philippines and you have bouganvilla over there. so this plant may very well have survived. for any one who doesnt know, bouganvilla root so easaly you can cut a branch off stick it in a box for a couple of weeks, take it out. and plant it. and with a little TLC it will pick right up and grow like crazy. true story, air port lost my “luggage”

@0szans Your right, if you cant get a good root ball (almost all of it) then you should dig around the tree or under and leave it for a year (or two) for roots to grow back and then dig it out the rest of the way

Any body who watched this video, PLEASE dont go dig up a tree without doing some research first. Read a bonsai book. or better yet find a bonsai club in your area and talk to some one there. you will have a much better chance of keeping it alive. and if there nice they might give you an idea about where to collect. Most trees will not survive the kind of treatment they show in the video. and it would be a shame if some one killed an ancient tree out of ignorance as im sure “BonsaiKing” has

  9. SanRafaelSwell says:

Plant 5 seeds for every tree you collect!! HA! :)

  10. SanRafaelSwell says:

Agreed. I’ll bet my left testicle this tree died in about a month or less. Removing all the soil is a great way to kill a tree that you’ve just dug up. They did a VERY poor job and should be ashamed. NO ONE TAKE THIS VIDEO SERIOUSLY!!! If you dig up a tree like this, you WILL kill it. FAIL!!!!!!!!

  11. danrhodes1987 says:

You should always collect a tree with soil intact as in the whole root ball NEVER dig out the tree like this it wont have a good chance of survival….FAIL big time!

Decent video but whoever put the audio overlay on it should be shot for defiling a Billy Joel song in this way.
